FAQ

Integrated Treatments

Are these treatments ongoing

Many clients have routine maintenance treatments at different intervals to maintain body balance and musculo -skeletal integrity, to avoid costly regression and as an investment in their health. Others come regularly because they enjoy the relaxation effect it has on their body and as a maintenance program. Essentially once your symptoms are resolved this is entirely your choice.

I have been told that you do not need to disrobe for these treatments. Is this true?

Yes this is correct, aside from massage. Bodywork may be done through light clothing. However you may be asked to remove bulky items such as thick jumpers or thick jeans that restrict a fluid movement being performed. Ideally clothing should be light and loose with only one layer to work through.

I am pregnant. Can I have these integrated treatments?

Yes, most definitely. Bowen, Emmett, Energy Balancing and Reiki are some of a very few treatments that can be used during pregnancy because of the gentle nature of the treatment without causing any complications. Please advise your therapist if you are pregnant.

How long does a treatment take?

Initial appointments can be a little longer in length so that treatment plans and observations can be made. Treatment times can vary according to the presenting conditions and client factors determined during the initial assessment. Donna has 60 min, 45 min, or 30 min treatment sessions. Typical treatment times would range from 30 minutes to one hour. You will be advised as to how many treatments you may need (usually 2-3) and what length of time would be necessary. Massage can vary occording to your preference and are either an 60 min or 90 min sessions.

Why should I choose Integrated treatments?

The principal reason for choosing these integrated treatments is the high rate of success in treating a wide range of presenting conditions. Often this success is achieved where other modalities have failed. Your safety is of the utmost importance to us so we can integrate non-invasive therapies that are suitable for everyone and have no contraindications (meaning they can be used no matter what medical care you are undertaking without interference). Another great feature of these Integrated Therapies being holistic is that conditions other than those for which treatment has been sought are often resolved.

What can I expect to feel from this treatment?

It is different for everyone but on a whole most people feel very relaxed, and the most common response is that they feel lighter or different somehow. Bowen treatments can be done standing, sitting or lying on a bed depending on your symptoms, if you are in a great deal of pain then I will address the body standing & sitting so as not to cause tension due to laying down. Some people may feel different sensations through the body like tingling or pulsing or heat as the body makes corrections and others feel nothing at all. We ask that you drink plenty of water after treatment of any kind in our clinic to help your body rid itself of toxins that may be released after a treatment session.

What do I do after a treatment?

You will be given advice from your therapist but usually it is wise to allow yourself the rest of the day doing very little. You will be asked to drink an adequate amount of water after your treatment and continuing throughout the rest of the week, this is usually between 6-8 glasses per day.

What is an integrated treatment?

Not one size fits all, it is my experience that by integrating therapies that share similar principles we can achieve far better results, which is why I'm a little different to other therapists. Please browse our 'Services Explanations' to get an idea of what these treatments are and how they are applied to get an idea of individual services.

Massage

What type of massage should I choose?

This is really up to individual preferences. Do you like a more flowing, relaxing massage that is light to medium tension on the body? Then you may like to choose the Aromatherapy or Relaxation packages. Or do you have unresolved pain? Then you may like to choose an integrated treatment or therapeutic massage. Maybe you might like to design your own massage package, please talk to your therapist in regards to your preferences.

What do I wear during the massage?

For a full body massage, it is required that you undress leaving your underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a towel or sheet at all times except the area being worked on. NOTE: Whilst this is a very rare event, please note we do not tolerate any sexual connotations or indecent behaviour of any kind. We reserve the right to cease treatment immediately. You will charged full fee of session regardless of time spent and banned from any further treatment at our centre.

Is a massage always safe?

Yes when done by a professional. We use therapeutic massage which is effective, but non invasive. Our massage therapists will ask general health questions to rule out if you have you have any contraindications to massage Your safety is our priority, it is necessary that you fill out a health history form before you begin your session. If your health condition changes you are required to inform us.

Will the massage oils used make me break-out?

We use hypoallergenic massage oils or lotions. However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils, lotions, or essential oils please bring it to the massage therapist’s attention as we have an assortment of oils and lotions on hand.

How will a massage feel?

In a general, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes (effleurage) that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension, oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that the massage therapist can use another approach or technique.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, you will be asked to move whenever needed. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time. Please be aware we do not tolerate inappropriate behaviour. Please read 'Our Rights' section

Private Health Fund Rebates

Do you have HiCaps for health funds?

No we do not have HiCaps (where you can claim your health insurance and pay the difference)

Why is your massage not covered by my private healthfund?

I am fully qualified registered under a governing body/ association for professional therapists. I also have insurance to practise. I have however chosen to save clinic costs by not registering with the private health funds. (which is a legal right) and pass on these savings by choosing to keep my service prices lower for all clients instead. Most health funds have massage included in the extra's which includes other therapies into the same portion of allocated funds and once you reach the amount of cover per year then that is the limit payed. I believe keeping my prices lower will work out more beneficial to my clients that regularly receive massage throughout the year.

Why can't I claim my Bowen Treatments with Donna Anymore?

Whilst Bowen Therapy has been covered by the majority of private health funds for over 15 years - Our government has changed its policies, allowing private health funds to drop existing requirements in our 'EXTRA's' cover, which means most natural health care will no longer be covered. This will come into effect 1st April 2019. You can still claim any receipts that you have where treatment has been done prior to 1st April 2019. So if you have any old receipts that you haven't claimed you can still claim these.
